First Beatrice, the Ameriquest loan agent, offered the reports as part of the sales pitch:

I said ok, and we proceeded to the application, discussed my self-employment, down payment, property type and value. I mentioned again that what I want to purchase will depend on what I am qualified for according to my credit scores.

Beatrice assured me that I will see my scores and states that they use the middle score:

The end of the call. I had told Beatrice that she didn't need to FedEx the reports because I was not in a huge rush. She again stated that she would send the reports the next day and it couldn't possibly be more clear that Beatrice knew that I was looking for a prequal to purchase:

To date, I did not get my credit reports and credit scores.

I never got any kind of consultation.

I have no idea what rates, terms and programs I would be looking at and what the score requirements were.

Instead, they declined me and provided a totally false reason for the decline.

How could a loan agent not know that self-employed people don't have W-2s and paystubs?

I don't see how that kind of incompetence could be topped.

Update: I settled with Ameriquest for $5,000 and my credit reports after numerous motions. It was NOT worth the aggravation and frustration over their continual lies and insults. But I learned a lot.
